• Terms used here: a GRI (general rate increase) is a flat rise a carrier adds to its base rates on a trade from a set date. A PSS (peak season surcharge) is an extra charge per container added in busy periods. FAK (freight all kinds) is one published rate per container whatever the cargo. TEU is a 20ft container and FEU is a 40ft container.
• Drewry World Container Index (WCI) composite, 29 Oct 2026: "$4,429 per 40ft container", down 3%, "mainly due to a decrease in rates on the Transpacific trade route". • MSC, Far East to North Europe, Mediterranean and Black Sea FAK, valid "as from 01 November 2026 until further notice but not beyond 14 November 2026". Per 40ft DV/HC: North Europe USD 4,500, West Med USD 5,000, Adriatic USD 5,000, East Med USD 5,100, Black Sea USD 5,300. Per 20ft: North Europe USD 3,150, West Med and Adriatic USD 4,000. The rates include a fuel surcharge of USD 266/TEU. Extra charges also apply, including a Carbon Review Surcharge of USD 90/TEU for North Europe and USD 133/TEU for the Med. Carriers change rates and surcharges every few weeks, often for short windows. MSC's November Far East to North Europe, Mediterranean and Black Sea FAK rates and CMA CGM's November Asia to Mediterranean FAK rates each run for two weeks only (MSC advisory, 17 Oct 2026; Container News, 20 Oct 2026). Drewry wrote on 29 Oct 2026 that "Carriers are announcing higher FAK rates for November" but that it "remains uncertain whether these increases will hold" (drewry.co.uk). The Drewry composite was $1,959 per 40ft on 6 Nov 2025 (thedcn.com.au) and $4,429 on 29 Oct 2026.
